    Good morning everyone : I pray that everyone is doing well. As someone who has had some deep experiences with Autism, I have deep empathy for everyone on the spectrum. I promise to be a unifier to bridge the gap between people on the spectrum and neurotypicals. What a great place our world will be if everyone finally gets what Autism actually is. It is vital that we have access to Life liberty and the pursuit of Happiness for everyone, not just neurotypicals. I wanted to let you know that I’m starting a campaign. It has been revealed to me and I soon run for president of the United States. My purpose is to pass a bill to enforce public education on Autism acceptance and it will be part of the health department in all schools across America. I will utilize the Autism society and DEI as well. This can also be for other compensations such as OCD ADHD and ADD TOURETTS. Everyone should have access to the American dream. This will certainly bring our country together. Just wanted to share with you what I’m starting to do. You have my support and if decide you want to help in our campaign please let me know. May your families be blessed to the highest degree. Looking forward to hearing from you soon 562-536-3518 Best Regards Mark Newberry

    why not allow the child to live their life on their schedule? why do parents need to dictate their children to the point of controlling the speed of which they drink their water? this feels very wrong

    • @AutismLive
      @AutismLive 8 дней назад

      It is critical before intervening on any behavior to first determine if the behavior is really something that needs intervention. Does the parent just want to control the behavior, is there a safety issue, is it harming the individual or anyone else? Is the behavior preventing them from doing some thing that is actually important to the individual themselves. If the reason for changing the behavior is to appease someone else, the motive needs to be scrutinized. All this to say that most individuals in the world should be allowed to drink water at the rate they drink water. Right? That is common sense. But this parent wrote in with concern about a behavior that is so extreme it could be a choking hazard.

    • @AutismLive
      @AutismLive 18 дней назад

      I think the issue here is what to do if the individual is "stuck" focusing on the fan. The word obsession is tricky because we use it all the time to mean we "love" something. But in a clinical sense obsession means something else. If you have ever had an obsessive thought that you cannot take a break from you know it is not fun. That is the kind of obsession that was being discussed. Lots of people love to watch ceiling fans, and it can be calming for them - but if you can't leave the fan to eat or go to the bathroom, it is no longer a choice and the individual deserves to get help.

    This autistic child never whined, or cried, he is 5 nonverbal, flight risk! I have been caring for him for 2 years! He got put in a daytime medication, and the mom is increasing when she has him, he has circles under his eyes, and NOW has been like that constantly! I am a RN and specialize in special needs-autism, he has a room at my house, and I have him 80% of the time, because the mom has three other children, and admits not being a special needs person, so I feel she is over medicating, because that’s when it started, also her husband, she just confided was a alcoholic, for obvious reasons I am concerned! I have decreased his medication to the normal amount and have been doing all I know to get him back on track, and it’s working! What’s going to happen when he goes to see his mom, and the same rules don’t apply? She does this to avoid hearing him verbally, and kicking his bedroom door! 😢

      It depends on the child and where their language and social skills are - However if you are just starting ABA at 5 you may want to maximize your ABA hours now and put off school until next year. This is your last opportunity to get maximum funding with no requirements in the way. At 6 they have to go to school and insurance typically won't approve as many hours. Ask the senior BCBA on your child's case if they think your child is ready for school.

    The psychologist who diagnosed me as autistic (at age 57) also told me that when a person's IQ test shows over a 40-point spread across the different components of IQ (like I did), it always indicates some sort of neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD, etc...). I had been working on an idea of what if we designed jobs around the strengths and weaknesses of an individual instead of expecting people to change themselves to fit a job. After that, I realized why that idea seemed so relevant to me.

    Due to my experience, any teacher reading this, please tread lightly. I’m a teacher at a private school, and I had such a conversation with a parent in denial (the lovely child unfortunately is aggressive with other students) and now I’m in hot water because the mom now hates me, and the school has asked me to leave any conversations with parents to a different teacher (aka. One who know the politics and what can and cannot be said to parents). I’m very regretful I ever had this conversation, as parents are still in full denial. (Side note, I never used the word autism. Mom asked for my advice on the behavioural issues and I mentioned speaking to a mental health professional for advice. I did say that the sooner they get support for him, the better it is for him). I cringe at the memory of this conversation

      I am so sorry that happened. However, I want you to consider that CHILD FIND holds schools legally responsible for not informing of parents if their child is showing signs that should be evaluated. It may be a painful memory for you you, but the alternative has shown extensive legal ramification. Schools are being sued and losing in the courts, for not having notified parents about concerns.

    • @Mo-zr3hh
      @Mo-zr3hh Месяц назад

      @@AutismLive Thank you so much for telling me about this. I had no idea about these legalities and now I’ll look into it more! It does make me feel a lot better about being upfront…. I genuinely was advocating for the child who has not received any support despite numerous reports from teachers about the behaviour. The school even requested an on-site psychologist to come observe the child, not to diagnose, but to help the teachers by giving advice on how to manage the behaviour, and the parents have refused, stating they don’t think he needs it….
